Save money on appetizers for your holiday party and put more meat on the table. Here is how to do it...

Appetizers are great but can get expensive. I avoid all the expense by starting with the basics like homemade spiced nuts, pretzels and chips are great fillers in your appetizer buffet. No one can resist appetizer munchies and they fill you up quick. Just make sure there are drinks nearby.  Go old-fashioned with simple and quick appetizers like celery sticks stuffed with peanut butter and carrot sticks for topped with cream cheese and raisins. These can be cute and quick to make also.

Warm appetizers like meatballs with bbq sauce of your choice is a quick item to throw into a slowcooker and forget about until game time. I make meatballs out of ground beef, salt, pepper, mustard, garlic, parsley and cayenne. Then I pour a bottle of whatever bbq sauce I have on hand. I put it in there for 4 hours on high(or 8hrs on low). But watch it and stir so nothing burns. Done. If you want more details about the recipe, see my article about slow cooker meatballs.  Croissant doughin a can is a life saver, you can put a slice of ham and swiss and it is a cute appetizer. Bake for 12 minutes and you have something that only looks expensive! Look up my recipes for what to do with a can of croissant rolls.

When you need foods you can make ahead, dips are great and quick to make the night before parties. Use corn tortillas cut in 6 pieces and lightly fried and salted for nachos and pita chips made by baking cuts of pita bread. It ends up cheaper then buying the chips premade.
