How to interpret the World Tarot card when reading the Tarot
The final card of the Major Arcana, the World represents completion and triumph. The World is a card of success; the realization of and projects reaching completion.
Symbolism in the World Tarot Card
In many packs, at the four corners of the card are the four "living creatures" of Ezekiel: a man, a bull, a lion and an eagle. These creatures stand for the four elements, the foundation of the material world, the four gospels as the foundation of the Christian message, the four seasons and the four directions: north, south, east and west. The World Tarot card suggests new cycles and the end of certain projects or a series of events. A change is on the cards which could lead a person to new environments. The World represents "roundness"; and completion. Satisfaction for a job well done.
Interpreting the World in a Tarot Reading
The World in a spread often relates to travel and journeys connected with other countries. Perhaps the person for whom the world has appeared in a spread is about to book a long-distance holiday, or they're remembering past travels and wondering whether they'd like to try and repeat them. Foreign places are on their mind and this could well lead to travel or just many conversations about distant places. The World card also suggests the end of certain efforts. For instance they'll be putting the final touches to projects of the past and eventually, new ones will begin.
The World Tarot Card and Endings and Beginnings
The World often represents the end of a cycle; a time of completion. But remember the simple phrase 'as one door closes another opens'. For all endings are also beginnings and they might look forward to starting a new chapter of their life very soon. Other associations of this card are: status, prestige and power. Happiness and a long life; sometimes wealth or inheritance.
Reversed Meaning of the World Tarot Card
If the World card is reversed and the querent is thinking about travel, there may also be some form of uncertainty or fear involved. Maybe they don't like flying or they get seasick. This may make them avoid making a decision which has to do with travel but they should remember that life is full of forward moves. They don't want to take a backwards step as they might do if they give in to their fears. And it could be that stubbornness and inertia could lead to stagnation.
There is the chance that a hope is delayed but it won't be totally destroyed. This is not a negative card. It is a card of hope and its effects are beneficial. What is however, apparent, is that any traumas or difficulties they are going through must be faced. They must look at these and solve them, and this should help them to avoid making mistakes.
