Things that can get you fired

The basic things that can get you fired without you even realising it

During a time of recession, getting fired is one of  the worst things that can happen to you. The situation might get even more confusing when you get fired for a reason you do not even understand. How will you be able to eliminate the chances of getting fired again in the future, if you do not know what you are doing wrong?

Things you do at work that can lead to getting fired

1.  Becoming too emotionally attached

Being able to maintain a civil relationship with your colleagues and your boss is important for your own well -being. However, learning to separate business from personal matters is equally important. If you become too emotionally attached to your colleagues and boss, then you will not be able to perform to the best of your abilities, as every personal conflict will take a toll on you. Furthermore, by being too emotionally attached to your colleagues and boss, you will also lose your objectivity and as a result, you will not be able to detect mistakes  (or go to the other extreme and see mistakes everywhere). Learning to keep a safe emotional distance from the people you work with is essential in order to avoid serious mistakes at work or emotional outbursts that could get you fired.

2. Gossip a lot

For some people, gossiping is both fun and harmless. It is an innocent way to unwind  and temporarily forget  all about  stress and worries.  A boss may see things differently though. He may think that gossiping is a way for you to skip work. He may believe that there is some kind of vendetta taking place that can cause a rift between his employees. And he may even think that he will be your next target before long.

3. Being full of ideas

You may think that by being full of ideas you will manage to prove your worth to your boss, possibly even getting a promotion and a raise at some point. While that may actually happen in some cases, in some other cases it may backfire. If your boss believes that you are trying to show off or question his abilities, he may choose to let you go. If you try to keep a low profile, ask for his suggestions and let him think that he has the final say in everything (even if that is not really the case), your boss will feel more comfortable and less antagonistic with you.

4.Socialise with the wrong people

If you socialise with people that your boss does not like  or they do not like him,  then it is quite possible for him to be prejudiced against you. In such cases, it is wise to avoid talking about these people to your boss as much as possible. If you stay neutral without taking sides even if you are forced to,  then your boss will be convinced that there is no conspiracy against him and that he can really trust you.

5.Do things your way

If you have proven your worth to your boss over the course of time, then taking initiatives often and doing things your way might not bother him. On the other hand, if you are a new employee who hasn't yet proven his worth, then trying to do things your way without at least consulting your boss first, might be too risky.

If you take some time to absorb the points discussed above, then the chances of getting fired will be seriously decreased.
