Admittedly, this type of change does impact every aspect of your life…but most often YOU CHOOSE if you want it to be successful and to enjoy the benefits it offers or focus on the difficulties you may face. As with any type of surgery not everyone has the same outcome or experience. Gastric Bypass is no exception.

Introduction

There are not a lot of success stories or words of encouragement from those of us who took the step that changed our lives for good. I had the surgery almost 6 years ago and am loving my new life!

But for those who made that choice and are now facing life choices/changes after the surgery, here are some suggests or thoughts:

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need

Steps

Step One Keep your focus on getting the most of life today! Step Two Choose a life plan that you can stick to (all plans don’t work for everyone) Step Three Encourage others to encourage you to stay on track (you may have to seek those people out but you will need the nurturing) Step Four If you’ve gained all and more of the weight back, it’s ok to start over as though you’ve just had the surgery yesterday. (Start with your original after surgery eating plan to get a kick-start back on track!)

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Watch your portions (try to stick to your after-surgery sized portions as much as possible)
  • Lots of Protein and stay away from the fried, sweet heavy stuff
  • Six small meals is better than SNACKING between meals
  • Don't eat meals late if at all possible (my cut off is after 6pm)
  • XXXersice - I know this is hard, it was foreign for me but now I can't skip
a day without it. (It really helps your mind and body!)

  • Remember this surgery is only a TOOL to help you change not the solution or pass to continue old habits.
  • If you’ve gained weight and you’re still alive, “It Ain’t Over”, this is not the END. Everyone has down times, slow weight loss, no weight loss, even weight gain.
  • Don’t forget why you had the surgery or the cost (not just financially) you’ve paid to get to your goal

Not easy for anyone, but a must for many. Sometimes the choice can even give you a chance at a new life.
