A lot of people make a resolution to lose weight for the new year. It's easier said than done, but if you are willing here are steps you can take to help you achieve your goal.

Start your brand new self by clearing out your kitchen of all junk food. "Bad" food would include any white bread, candy, cakes, soda. Any food that is high in fat and calories. You know what I'm talking about... don't allow yourself to keep temptations around your home.

Keep a food diary to keep track of what you are eating. Write down all the food that you consume including the fat and calorie content. At the end of the day count your total intake. You'll be suprised the amount of food you consume each day and once you keep track of it, you can change the amount and the types of food you eat. Try to keep your total fat intake to 20% or less. Read food labels when you are at your local market to avoid "bad" foods and if you decide to go for fast food try to check out their nutritional facts on their webpage. If you crave any "Bad" food go ahead and have it but only allow yourself small amounts.

You've probably heard this several times but you must eat 5 fruits and veggies a day. Keep fresh fruit in your fridge in plain sight and cut up veggies to bite size pieces for easy snacks. Carry a few different veggies in a small bag for when you feel like snacking. Have plain yogurt and hummus to dip fruit and veggies in. If you can't stand to eat uncooked veggies, no worries just steam them or cook them to your liking.

Make sure to buy whole grain breads and cereals. Today's market provides consumers with a wide variety of whole grain products. Try different kinds and see what you like. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. This will keep you hydrated and it will alleviate your hunger, it's also good for your skin. So, let go of those sodas, and sweetened drinks and go back to plain old water.

Start the New Year by starting an exercise routine. Begin by walking at least 3 times a week for at least 30minutes, and once you feel comfortable you can start jogging. Take it slow and don't over do your workout, even walking a few minutes is good for your body. So, only do what your body allows you to do.

I agree, keeping that tempting junk food around is not a good idea.
