10 Unique and Interesting Facts About George W. Bush

Jan 9th, 2009 by Dialga

Here are 10 very unique and interesting facts about George W. Bush, the 43rd American President. Bush was preceded by Bill Clinton.

Fact #1 -

George W. Bush was born on July 6, 1946 in Newhaven, Connecticut.

Fact #2 -

Strangely enough, Bush will be remembered as the president with both the highest and lowest approval ratings in American history. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, his rating peaked. However, after his failure in dealing with the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina, and the slumping of the U.S. economy into recession in 2008, his popularity sharply declined.

Fact #3 -

In his senior year at high school, Bush was the head cheerleader of his team.

Fact #4 -

George Bush married Laura Welch on November 5, 1977.

Fact #5 -

Before Bush was married, he felt victim to alcoholism, much like Barack Obama. After Laura became a part of his life, however, he stabilized his drinking, until he eventually quit consuming alcohol in 1986.

Fact #6 -

At the age of 30, Bush was arrested as a result of DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol). He was fined $150 and had his driving license suspended for 2 years.

Fact #7 -

Bush planned for one of the largest tax cuts in American history in 2001, at 1.35 trillion dollars. He argued that, “…the surplus is not the government’s money. The surplus is the people’s money.” Many people working at the U.S. Treasury were opposed to this measure.

Fact #8 -

Contrary to popular belief, Bush does believe in the effects of global warming. However, he questions whether the majority of it has been caused by humans, or by nature and the Earth’s gradually-changing climate.

Fact #9 -

Although Bush supports stem-cell research, and passed legislation to provide money for its development, he does not support embryonic stem-cell research.

Fact #10 -

In 2005, Bush was nearly assassinated in Georgia by a man named Vladimir Arutyunian, who threw a live grenade at Bush. Fortunately, it did not explode. We may not like Bush or his policies, but had he been killed on that day, the past four years might’ve been different. However, there’s no way to tell whether they would’ve been better or worse.

Dialga,

Your assessment of George W. Bush is biased and unprofessional.  Your comment, “We may not like Bush and his policies” speaks volumes into your partisan opinion.  As a journalist, you need to revisit the fundamentals of reporting facts versus popular opinion.  I am available for comment…tyler.

Holy crap- wow…I never knew Bush was almost assassinated.  (Darn, as some might say, but that’s serious business and not the typical video game or similar).

Good information!  Facebooked, Stumbled, and Dugg.
