How to let cats know who is boss!

It is well thought that cats own the owners. Maybe this will dispell those thoughts.

All my life, I have had cats in my house. Some were mainly outdoors, but all were pets. I now have three kitties in my household and we all get along well.

I provide them with fresh, dry food, clean water, attention and a place to excrete. I mention these things since they are so vital everyday needs for cats. Cats cannot provide some of those for themselves.

If the cat needs to supply its own food, there is little connection between the owner and the cat. On the other hand, if food is supplied, the cat will return for that nourishment when they want it.

Water given is a must, Strange liquids get left in the street that can be dangerous or fatal if the cat drinks water from the road. One of those is radiator fluid or coolant. If ingested the animal has seizures and generally dies.

Patting and some sort of physical contact make a cat a pet. If you are at all familiar with a growing process of kittens, you will know what an important thing this is at a very early age.  Some cats like scratching under the chin or behind the ears, but you quickly learn their favorite spots of desired attention.

If you do not want accidents, use a litter box. Cats are taught early in their kittenhood about being clean. They will be very clean if you provide them with an accessible and clean bathroom. One of my fussy boys, waits for me to clean the litter box so he can have a clean spot that is not used.  If you cannot deal with a litter box, you will have an outdoor cat for the most part. Some cats, because they are nocturnal animals, will be active and need a bathroom in the night while you are sleeping. Your might find a deposit of some kind in an unwanted place if the cat is confined without a place to excrete. You can't blame anyone except yourself if there is a mess or a smell of cat other than where you want that to be so you can clean it up easily.

I find that if I give them their needs,  and supply them with their wants,I am the boss. I keep a happy pet and remain a happy cat owner as well.  None of my cats ever complained. I know my kitties well because of that, I know when they are ill so I can attend to that need if it arises too.

Thank you for reading and taking care of your pet and friend!

I have two tabby's I adopted them when they were one year old. They're sisters. First I had a problem with the litter tray, then I had two trays an dnow I just have one tray. There is no problem anymore.

I love cats, but have never had one as an adult. Funny thing...sometimes, I'll go visit my sister JUST to see her cat.
