Short, easy steps to shiny, healthier looking hair.

Shinier hair looks nice, fact. But if you don’t have naturally shiny hair, it can seem very difficult to get. There are some simple ways to make your hair look shinier and healthier.

Shampoo: Any decent hairdresser will tell you that if you are going to splash out on your shampoo and conditioner, spend more money on the shampoo. If you buy the right conditioner and the wrong shampoo, you are damaging your hair and having making the conditioner work harder than it needs to.

When you shampoo your hair, do it gently. Don’t scratch or rub at the scalp and don’t pull you fingers through your hair. Hair is at its most fragile when it’s wet, gently rub with the pads of your fingers. Only shampoo the areas that get greasy, if you get greasy roots, rub shampoo into the roots and let the shampoo run down your hair whilst you are rinsing, this will clean your hair only where it needs to be cleaned.

Conditioner: Get a conditioner that is specifically designed for giving you shiny hair, there are many available. If you have coloured hair, I recommend getting a shampoo and conditioner specifically for coloured hair. There are lots of different brands available,  so you should have plenty to chose from.

The key to shiny hair is getting the cuticle to lay flat. Rinsing your hair in cold water (as cold as you can bear it!) will help the cuticle to lay flat

Don’t rub your hair with a towel when it’s wet, this will rub the cuticle the wrong way, causing it to break. Gently pat your hair dry.

Never brush your hair when it’s wet, use your fingers or a wide toothcomb.

Heat protection is an absolute must, there are so many products on the market now that will protect your hair from heat damage, whilst giving you volume, curl or whatever you need. Put it in your hair after you have towel dried it, if your hair is too wet, it will dilute the product.

Dry your hair on a low setting; pointing the nozzle down the shaft, this will help the cuticle to lie flat.
