Learning how to swim is not an easy task, but with these tips, you will be well on your way to being a fish in the water!

The first thing you must remember when learning to swim is to have courage. If you are afraid of the water, you will have a tendency to panic. This can cause you to use much more energy, become short of breath, and is not beneficial to staying above water. Try to relax because smooth and fluid strokes are the best way to stay afloat.

The second tip when learning to swim would be to practice in shallow water. You do not want to learn how to dive by jumping off of a cliff, so you do not want to swim in deep waters. Learning to swim in the ocean can be a bad idea as well with the current.

The final step when learning to swim is to be careful. Much like learning to ride a bike, there is a risk of injury when learning how to swim. Make sure there is a strong swimmer nearby in case you get into trouble. Following these tips, with a little practice, may not make you the next Michael Phelps, and you may not compete in the Olympics, but you will certainly be on your way to diving in and out of the lake with confidence.
