Located in Yunnan Province, Mt. Meili Snow or Mt. Prince Snow is one of the most sacred mountains of Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan language, its name is read as “Kang Karpo” which means the “God of Snow Mountain” and it has become the most holy spot for thousands of devout pilgrims who come here to worship by encircling it each winter. Mt. Meili Snow is geographically located on the border of Yunnan Province and Tiber, where the three rivers of Jinsha, Mekong (Nu) and Salwen (Lancang) flow through. It’s always regarded as a “virgin peak” as up to now, no one has ever conquered its summit. The snowy peak and the golden sunlight that shines through the low-floating clouds forming various extraordinary shapes, adding even more mystical legend to the mountain. The densely fog, heavy snow and clouds resulted from the collision between the strong updrafts and cloud airflow from the inner continents in this area, affording another gleaming sight to its prominent and tempting scenery. Hanging glaciers, icefalls and snow slides are yet another striking sight! From the distance, Mt. Meili Snow appears as a gigantic white snake wriggling its way among the verdant mountain. The visitor can see a waterfall called “holy collapsing rain” falls from thousands of meters high from the southern part of its peak, and the rainbows are always observed to be hanging above the fall.
