Dr. Death Steve Williams recently lost his battle with cancer thoughts

Dr. Death Steve Williams has just recently passed away and here are some thoughts on that.

As some of the wrestling fans maybe aware, just recently another wrestling death had come about.  It was Dr. Death Steve Williams.  While he may have been more known for older fans, he did have a run in the World Wrestling Federation.  It is a sad story to hear that he had passed away but the cause of death was from cancer.  It truly was sad.  He died at the age of 49 and became another statistic of a wrestler dying before the age of 50.

Let it be known that, as a fan, it is just sad to see it happen.  He began his early career with Mid-South, which would later be renamed to Universal Wrestling Federation.  He was the promotion’s top champion and would get a push in the NWA.  It was during that time, he would be given a title holding the NWA Tag Team Titles with Mike Rotunda.  He was also a WCW Tag Team Champion and did have a chance to challenge for the WCW World Heavyweight Title but lost to then-champion Ron Simmons.

One of his moments that could be argued as being known would be the time he was in the World Wrestling Federation.  He was participating in a Brawl for All Tournament that was designed to have the matches won legitimately and not pre-determined.  He was expected to win and had he done so, might have actually had a brief run with the World Wrestling Federation title or, at the very least, a high profile angle with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Those plans didn’t come to fruition as he would be knocked out by Bart Gunn, whom did actually win the competition but didn’t go very far after that.  Jim Ross was his manager during the Jim Ross heel run.  For the record, that storyline was lame and didn’t get Steve Williams anywhere.

Over there, he would perform with a similar role for Oklahoma, played by Ed Ferrara.  It was not a very long stay and would go to Japan.  Speaking of Japan, he had achieved success and was probably the place he was the most successful.

He had been in a battle with cancer and was thought to have it removed in 2004.  He had recently retired from the wrestling ring and would go out on top with a victory.  Two months after, he would go on to pass unfortunately.  It was actually with throat cancer to be more specific.  It is going to be a curious decision on the WWE on whether they will induct Dr. Death.  Anything is possible and it could happen in 2010.
