If you are having problems with your computer after installing a new software package or after performing a system update and cannot system to uninstall the software package or the update, then this article will show you the steps you need to take to perform a system restore.

How to Restore Your Computer

There undoubtedly there are times where you have made a Microsoft Windows update on your computer and that update caused problems; or, maybe you have installed a software package that was not compatible with your system configuration. The most obvious thing would be to uninstall the software package. This is not always possible. Sometimes you will need to restore your computer to a time when the computer was functioning properly. This article will give you the steps to do just that.

Restart your computer and press several times until the Windows startup menu appears. Then select "Safe Mode" from the menu. Do not mistake it for "Safe Mode with Network" Once Windows has started in "Safe Mode" click on the start button in the lower left-hand corner and select "System Restore" When "System Restore" has loaded follow the onscreen instructions.

Notes:

When selecting a breakpoint to return to keep in mind the further you go back the more unreliable the system restore will be. So you want to go back to a point which the computer was functioning properly, but as close to the current date as possible. Sometimes this may mean running "System Restore" a few times. Take note that when performing a "System Restore" the computer will restart on its own. You will have to sign back in for "System Restore" to complete.

Hopefully this is what it takes to solve your problem. If you find yourself still in need of assistance, please my article on "How to Perform a System Recovery"
