Quick and easy Indian curry recipe

Dec 28th, 2009 by Petal

An easy Indian curry recipe for those who don't know how to cook. This curry recipe also doesn't have a lot of ingredients in it.

This easy Indian curry recipe feeds 6 hungry people and the curry should be served on Indian Basmati rice. Anyone can make this curry; it is a great Indian dish for non-cooks and lazy cooks!

Curry Ingredients:

1 tbsp oil for frying

1 large onion

3 cloves of garlic

1 fresh green chili

1tbsp curry powder

1 tbsp garam masala powder

1 tsp cumin

1tsp turmeric

1tsp hot paprika

1 kg Beef rib meat (no bone) cut into inch thick chunks

3 potatoes

Water

Salt to taste

Method for Indian Curry:

Heat oil in a deep pot.

Cut up the onion roughly and add to the oil.

When the onion is glassy add the sliced garlic and chili. I put plastic bags on my hands when I do this to avoid the after burn!

Immediately add all the spices and stir.

Add the meat to the curry pot and stir it around until the meat has been covered with the spices and browned a little.

Watch to see that the curry does not stick to the bottom of the pot, and stir occasionally.

Then peel and cut the potatoes into quarters and add them to the curry.

Add about a cup of water to the curry and leave to simmer. The water is just to make sure the curry doesn't burn or stick to the bottom, and it allows you the freedom to leave the kitchen and just come back every 20 minutes or so to check that the curry is O.K. and to add more water to the curry if necessary.

Cook the curry for as long as you can, although it will be ready in about half an hour the longer it cooks the more tender the meat will be.

Serve with plenty of water to drink!

In addition you could serve these side dishes with the curry: cut up a tomato and onion very finely as one curry side dish. Also sliced banana and the third curry side dish is just grated coconut.

No need to get complicated with this dish, it will be delicious and enjoyed by all, even in sandwiches the following day!

You could add raisons, grated fresh ginger, coconut milk and small pieces of apple to the curry. You can try adding these but the recipe works just as well without. If you don't have the turmeric, hot paprika or cumin it is also O.K. but the curry powder and garam masala are essential.

The meat I use for this curry recipe is worth trying as it is one of the cheapest cuts and becomes very tender with the right amount of cooking. You can use beef brisket, chuck or rib meat. Alternatively you can swop in chicken or mixed vegetables instead of the beef.

No need to get complicated with this dish, it will be delicious and enjoyed by all, even in sandwiches the following day!
