Following are the types of Vitamins, their Uses and Sources:
Vitamin A: Chief sources of Vitamin A are Meat, butter, eggs, fish-liver oils, storage roots and green leafy vegetables. Vitamin A is used to function healthy growth of mucus membrane. Forms visual purple in retina. If there is deficiency found in the system for Vitamin A it causes Night blindness, retardation of growth, dry skin and dry eyes.
Vitamin B-Complex:
Vitamin B1 : Sources for Vitamin B1 are Milk, eggs, unpolished grains, liver and yeast. Its main functions are Promotes appetite and growth and nerve function. Deficiency of Vitamin B1 will cause Berberi and loss of appetite conjuctivities.
Vitamin B2: Sources for Vitamin B2 are Milk, butter, eggs, green vegetable fruits. Vitamin B2 makes metabolism of carbohydrates and fats eady. Defeciency of Vitamin B2 leads to irritation of eyes, stunted growth, cracks in mouth and tounge and nervous disorders.
Vitamin B6: Sources for Vitamin B6 are whole grains, cereals, pulses, milk, vegetables, nuts and fruits. It functions as a coenzyme in many metabolic processes. Lack of Vitamin B6 leads to skin diseases and anaemia.
Vitamin B12: Sources for Vitamin B12 are Milk, meat, liver, cereals and pulses. Functions as Antianaemic factor. Maintinsenormal functions of RBC. Lack of Vitamin B12 causes anaemia.
Vitamin C: Sources for Vitamin C are citrus fruits, milk, tomato, banana, vegetables. It maintains capillaries, proper development of bones and teeth and other tissues. Defeciency leads to bleeding within skin and scurvy.
Vitamin D: Sources for Vitamin D are Fish-liver oil, milk, butter, exposure to sunlight, irradiated food. Chief function is assimilation of calcium and phosphorous and development of bones and teeth. Lack of Vitamin D will results in rickets and osteomalacia.
Vitamin E: Sources of Vitamin E are Milk, vegetable oils, green leafy vegetables and germinating seeds. Functions as normal reproduction, rapid cell division and growth of embryo. Lack of Vitamin E causes sterlity and muscle defects.
Vitamin K: Sources for Vitamin K are Milk, green vegetables, cabbage, tomato, cauliflower. Function is clotting of blood and normal funcitioning of liver. If found deficit will cause haemorrhage.
