Tutorial on how to improve a photo using Photoshop.

Here are some photos that are really good, but that you feel that are missing something. Often the reason is a wrong use of the light by who took the picture (not everyone is a professionist) but if you have Photoshop you can fix it and give an extra look to your photo. Wanna try it? Let's go with the tutorial.

(I'm using Photoshop CS3, but you can use every Photoshop version that has the Selective Colors command. I'm sorry but it is not translatable in PSP)

This is our original image (taken from Google):

  1. Duplicate your base, using Ctrl+J on your keyboard or Layer > Duplicate layer
  2. Select the duplicate. Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur. Change the value to 3.
  3. Desaturate the layer: Image > Adjustment > Desaturate
  4. Change the blending mode to Soft Light in the upper left corner of your layer palette.
  5. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color. Change this values:
    RED -100, 0, 0, 0
    YELLOW -100, 0, 0, 0
    NEUTRALS +35, 0, 0, 0
  6. Change the foreground color to #6fbee7 or a light blue you like
  7. Add a new layer (Ctrl + N or Layer > New Layer).
  8. Fill this new layer with #6fbee7, change the layer mode to Soft Light and decrease the opacity till you have something around 20% (it depends on your picture).

You're done! And here's the result:

Do you like it? You can try other tutorials in my forum (http://spitmeout.forumcommunity.net) but they are in Italian. Soon I'll translate them here in english.

Again sorry if there was some grammar error!
