It is illegal in many places to drive while talking or texting using a mobile phone, unless you are using a wireless setup. It is also rather stupid, as it takes your attention off of the task at hand; driving.
The Droid, made in collaboration by the personal telecommunications and information big whigs Google and Motorola, runs on the Android 2.0 platform, which is lightning-fast compared to other next generation cell phones. When you have your Droid, and it is all setup the way you want it, using it is usually as easy as tapping a couple of icons on the phone's touch-screen's home screen. There are a few ways to WiFi mount your Droid phone, and the most popular place to mount it is in your vehicle, since when walking, hiking, jogging, riding on a bicycle or motorcycle, the voice-activated headphone and mic set is best to be used.
When driving, the best thing to do is to WiFi mount your Droid phone, either onto the dashboard, a window or heating vent. When using the heater vent, make sure that the heater is off, and the vent is not venting hot air. There are car mounts for the Droid phone that either attach via suction cups, hooks or with permanent mounts. When your Droid phone is WiFi mounted, you can access anything on the phone with voice commands, freeing your hands and attention for the more important task at hand; driving.
In Canada and many States in the United States, it is illegal to drive while talking on a cell phone, and you will not get let off because you have one of the coolest cell phones on the market. Having your Droid WiFi mounted on your dash, in your cigarette lighter, or hooked into one of the heating/air conditioning vents allows you full, hands-free operation of the Droid. You will first need to download and activate Google Voice, so that the Droid will work with voice commands.
The suction-cup mount option for the Droid phone is the best WiFi mounting apparatus, as you will not have to take your eyes off of the road for more than a second or two to see who is calling. Or, you can personalize your Droid so that it tells you who is calling. You can also tell who is calling by giving each contact a different ring-tone or personal notice, like "Mom is calling". Using the cigarette lighter mount, or the vent mount for the Droid phone may draw your attention from the road when it rings, which is just human nature.
The idea of WiFi mounting your Droid phone is to make it accessible and safe to use while engaged in other activities, like jogging, hiking, bike riding or driving your car. It is best to use the option that allows you full access to the Droid's features, all the while without distracting you from your task at hand, and keeping your hands and eyes free. WiFi mounts are as cheap as $19.99.
Depending upon the layout of the vehicle you are driving, it just may be more prudent to use a vent, drinking cup holder, or cigarette lighter WiFi mount. Before starting out on your drive, hike or whatever it is you are doing, make sure that the Droid works to your satisfaction before leaving. Try making a call, and accessing a couple of the Droid's apps, using voice commands. If all is well, then drive off, but if problems are encountered, reset your Droid's voice command feature and ensure that it is working properly before heading off.
