Unlocking a few factors responsible for triggering negative traits in professors

Almost every college student has come across unfair and ill-mannered professors in his or her lifetime either directly or indirectly.  However, in the finish line the reason always turns out to be that those professors are strict in nature But are they really strict or is it something else? Interestingly, there are actually certain factors related to their psychology which cause them to react in that unfair way. And this we can break into four different parts for further clarification.

1.They are assimilators- Under organizational behavior topic, the title of assimilator is given to a person who is good at learning abstract points, but when it comes to interacting with people he is numb and detached.  In details, the assimilators are good at understanding logic, researching and creating strategies. But they do not have the power to understand the emotions of people around them. This can definitely be linked to certain ill-mannered professors. They have a doctorate degree which means that they are passionate learners in their respective fields. But when it comes to dealing with people they fail to use emotion. Thus, any word they use while talking sounds rough and when angered they can go one step farther by being verbally abusive.

2. They did not learn manner in parental home- While school teaches a person to be knowledgeable, parental home is responsible for teaching him manner.  It is a regret that some parents fail to fulfill their responsibility and kids end up carrying the impoliteness in their personality even throughout their adulthood. Therefore, we can conclude that some ill-mannered professors have not come from a loving home where etiquette and talking style are given more priority.

3. Their past experiences and distorted hearsay- Bad experiences with certain group of people and distorted knowledge about various cultures can leave a person with vengeful feeling, narrow mind and resentment. Same can be told for professors. Although people in normal positions often become compelled to swallow their bitterness to get along with their colleagues and save their jobs, professors being in a powerful position do not require an obligation to forget and forgive. Unfortunately, they are aware of it in their mind especially in the classroom environment where all others are there under their leadership. This sophisticated power then is misused when the professors come in contact with students who come from such group.  That is how basically  usually much of the cases of racism and discrimination occur in the classrooms.

4. They want to hide their teaching disability- Many professors show unusual hostility when students ask them questions about a specific course topic. This is actually a tactic used by them to hide the fact that they lack sufficient knowledge in the field. In details, scolding or embarrassing one student is enough for the professors to imply to all other students that they must not try asking them any questions. Thus, the professors’ disability in the field gets covered-up.

Professors are the main people to teach students about ethics. Unfortunately, some of them fail to incorporate it into their own personalities, leaving the education system in the dark. However, much of this problem can be solved if universities make a point to educate the new professors on teaching style, human behavior, ethics and tolerance through a short behavioral science program.
