Use Audio Books to Increase Your Knowledge in the Car

Most of us spend at least 15 minutes traveling to work each day (50 minutes for me) plus a lot of additional time in the car. This is time that you could use advancing your knowledge with audio books.

Potential Benefit

In my experience the average audio book is approximately 6 hours.  This means that if you spend 30 minutes in the car each day, then you could complete 2.5 books per month and 30 books per year.  That’s a tremendous amount of knowledge that you could be gaining with a little time each day.

Audio Book Resources (Free)

1. Library – Most libraries offer a selection of audio books on tape or CD

2. Friends/Family – Friends & family may be will to depart with their used audio books

Audio Book Resources (Paid)

1. Audible.com – Audible allows you to either purchase books one at a time or you can sign up for a subscription for 1 or 2 books per month.  In addition, there are discounts for subscribers on purchases of books over the monthly allowance. These audio books need to be downloaded to a computer.  Then you can transfer the audio book to a CD or an MP3 player.  I’ve used this service for 4 years and listened to over a hundred books.  Currently, I download audio books to my iPod.

2. ITunes – I haven’t used this service for audio books, but I know ITunes allowes you to download straight to your iPod or iPhone.

3. Purchase Audio Book from online or traditional store.  Most likely, the audio book will be on CD or tape.

After Listening to 166 Audio Books, here are my top 5 recommendations:

1. Rich Dad Poor Dad – Simply life changing! (Business)

2. The Go-Giver – Rules to Live-by! (Business)

3. The Lion’s Game – Couldn’t put this book down (Fiction - Suspense)

4. Goals! – Teaches you how to Succeed (Motivation)

5. Between a Rock & a Hard Place – Story of Aron Ralston cutting off his arm to survive (Non-fiction
