This article looks at blogging - is it a passive income. A passive income stream is the best type of income you can create, but it is hard to create - is blogging the answer?

Much has been said online concerning the generation of a passive income. It would seem that almost every man and his dog have come up with a strategy for making a passive income, questions have to be asked about how viable, how realistic and ultimately how passive these passive incomes actually are.

Blogging is often touted as a passive income stream. People will try and sell you ebook after ebook on how anyone can write a blog, set up some adverts and sit back and watch the money roll in. The reason why so many people buy these ebooks is that there is a certain element of truth to this statement. Anyone can write a blog, and anyone can put adverts on their blog, but this is not a passive income.

A blog can be built and have content published within a few minutes, but this not going to make you any money.

So why is blogging not a passive income?

The bottom line is that a blog can make you money whilst you are not actively working on it, but the key to making a blog that pays is traffic. And generating a blog that gets traffic is by no means passive, in deed it is highly active.

There are several activities that your blog requires to make it successful. The first is that you need to post regularly. This means that you need to write regularly. In order for a blog to rank well on search engines (and therefore to get traffic) you need to update it often. Daily posting is best in order to create a popular blog. Writing a blog article every single day does not constitute a passive income.

The other major activity that your blog will require is to proactively market your blog. Using the opportunities at your disposal to promote your blog takes a great deal of time. There is nothing passive about this activity. Without promoting your blog across the internet, you can virtually guarantee that your blog will not get the volumes of traffic required for it to make any form of income.

It should be clear that writing a couple of articles for your blog and sticking on some adverts is not enough to generate an income.

It is possible to make an income from blogging, but as any successful blogger will tell you, it is not a passive income by any means.

The only actually reason why this statement is ever called into question is that so many bloggers are trying to sell ebooks and other materials that tout an attitude of it being easy to make money from blogging.

If you are enthusiastic about writing, and have a subject you are passionate about, then it is possible to make a good income from blogging, but if you are considering it, you need to know that it is a very involving activity.
