Just some common knowledge going in to boot camp for the United States Navy.

Prep - Memorize the Saliors Creed, all the ranks, and get in shape if you want to stand out. Practice about within 3 minutes do 100 push-ups. Sit-ups at least 100 in 3 minutes as well. Navy, unless you are going special forces, doesn't test pull ups. For safe measure, I'd do at least 6 perfect form pull-ups. Also, try to run a 1.5 mile in 10 minutes... roughly 7 minute miles. Also, you'll want to score a good score on the ASVAB you can email me I'll give you 3 test prep guides from Barron's. One more thing! Do not forget to practice swimming no matter what...if you can't swim that can set you back a few weeks. If you want to do a special forces thing I am sure you are well prepared but make sure you can do 4 laps in a swimming pool, 6 pull-ups, and 30 push-ups right after your swim test. You have to have endurance.

To get ranking. Unless you have some college credits (60 i believe) which will put you up to E-3, There are 3 ways to get promoted out of boot to E-2. 1.) master the quiz (which means study ranks saliors creed and anything else your recruiter gives you); 2.) be the standout sailor...which means you have to be the teacher...know your stuff..speak with a sound voice...get answers correct...looked squared away. You have to be a team leader. The thrid and final way is to be the divison leader at graduation....you must have really good leader abilities and when the divison starts falling apart you have to get them back. Motivate, motive, motivate!

The first week is p-w. This week is hectic. It is "p" for Processing. This is where you keep your mouth shut and stay under the radar. Don't be a jackass. You'll get everything you'll need for the navy. Pretty much $1500 worth the gear. Try your best to follow instructions.

There will be academic tests...which is navy history and the like. Really study hard because when you get a high rating it brings the class average up and you will qualify as the best of the best of all your divisions.

After graduation, you go to your A-school and C-school (if needed). You also want to do well here as well. Just study hard. Don't lose motivation!

Honestly, I broke down with an illness so I didn't get much farther than graduating A-school. I was very happy that I did. Make it your best efforts to try your best and stay away from people that want to drag you down. Hang with the right crowd. My friends tell me the fleet is a lot dofferent from A school and C school.... Sadly I cannot tell you the details (probably really important to you).

If, able be fincially smart...save your money...I don't know if you should put your money into a TSP (thrist savings plan) because, though it is a "401K" it doesn't match what you put in. Do as much as you can with education. Navy KNowledge Online is a good place to learn and be aware of salior life and what can happen to you. You'll get a username and password at bootcamp. I wish you the best of luck. The Navy is a great great place to develope yourself.
