Get rid of fleas in you house with out insecticide or poisions

I have 2 Labs & a Mixed bread , During the warmer times of the year , fleas can be a problem. Seeing that I have 2 kids , 3 dogs & 2 aquariums in the house. I hate to spray poison around the house in fear of harming one of the kids , dogs or any of the fish. Not to mention the hassle of finding a place to keep the dogs while you spray or flea bomb the house.

A safe & inexpensive way I keep the fleas under control in you home is by using table salt & borax powder. Both are cheap & safe to use around kids & pets. I use the salt & borax in a 50-50 mixture ( half salt - half borax) The amount will depend on the artea yopu are treating. The salt & borax dry out the fleas & kills them within a day or so. I have had the best results if the salt & borax is in a fine powder. I mix them together & put them into a blender & let it run for a few minute till it has the consistency of fine powder. Then I take a old jar with a screw-on lid & poke a many small to medium sized holes in the lid , a PRINGLES chip container also works well. It's like you are making a large salt shaker. First I vacuum the whole house very well , ( Floors, Furniture , Dog bedding)anywhere the fleas are a problem. Then I shake a very light dusting of the powder all over the carpet , hardwood floors , tile , on any furniture & dog bedding. I take a broom a kind of sweep it in & around to get good coverage & to get it down into the fibers of the carpet or furniture. Then I let it sit for a about 24 hours , I know it is a bit messy , but that is why I said a LIGHT DUSTING of the powder. After 24 hours I vacuum everything , go over the carpets & furniture 2 or 3 time , it will pick up the powder ,fleas , eggs & the larva. They will be dead or in a weakened state & will vacuum up easy. Sometimes this will need to be done every week or so till you have the fleas under control. But it is cost effective & there isn't any poison residue all over the house.
