How to Help an ADDICT Drug or Alcohol Addiction

 I was a drug addict for 10 years , So I know what I'm talking about. These are some things that I did & other did for me to help me kick the addiction. But nothing worked till I wanted to quit.

The first thing you have to realize if the addict doesn't want to quit , there is NOTHING you can do to help them. Hitting ROCK BOTTOM is the start to getting better. Rock Bottom can mean a different place to every addict. For some addicts rock bottom is DEATH , for others it is losing the love & respect of your friends or family. Some have to lose the house, the car, the kids. For others JAIL is ROCK BOTTOIM. Everyone is different & the term ROCK BOTTEM is a general term that means a place where they realise that the addicted life style is no longer something they want to be a part of ! ! ! Interventions will let an addict know that you & others don't like what they are doing , but If they can't admit they are an addict & they really don't want to quit, An Interventions really does no good at all. A Rehab Center is OK, but again if the addict doesn't want to quit , It is just a place to hang out for a few weeks or months & then when they get out . They will go right back to the substance they LOVE. Addiction is not a DISEASE. You don't just catch an addiction It is a choice that person made to get high. They may have started out getting high at a party & it was COOL & FUN. Then it turned into once a month thing, then every week , then every day. But then it then turned into something they had to do just to get through the day. But it is still a choice they made. An Addict will say "I can't help myself" , THAT IS BULL SH!T. If they really want to get clean & sober , they can do it.. They most likely did some things to get drugs that they never thought they could or would do ,BUT they wanted the drugs so they just did it. Getting clean is the same , if you want it ,you have to just do it.... There are no quick fixes to addiction, But if the addict really wants to quit , It can be done. It will be a long hard road , filled with pot holes & stumbling point. They may backslide from time to time. When that happens you need to be there to help them - help themselves. I like to say "When they stumbles , Help them up , kick them in the ass & point then in the right direction". Weather they stay on the road to recovery is up to them. You can help , but the respectability is theirs & their alone. Thinks to know if you are dealing with an addict. #1 )An addict will lie , steal, cheat , prostitute themselves & even in a worst case KILL to get a fix. #2 )Never think "They wouldn't do that to me , they love me to much." YOU ARE WRONG. When dealing with an addict , all love & respect goes out the window. That love & respect is redirected to the substance they are addicted to. #3 ) NEVER give a addict CASH MONEY. They will go straight to the drug dealer , liquor store or where ever to get a fix. If you want to help them , show them some tough love & tell them NO. If you are going to help them by paying for something for them , go with them & pay it yourself , weather it is court fine food , rent or what ever. But don't ever give them CASH MONEY. #4 ) Keep an eye on your propery , keep it locked up. Lots of drug dealer will trade drugs or almaot anything. If it isn't nailed down & sometimes even if it is nailed down an addict will steal it the first chance they get & sell it or trade it for drugs I wish you good luck. Your going to need it.
