Short article on how to keep your chain saw clean

With most chain saws today, you can expect them to last a long time. However, just like your car, there are many ways to make your chain saw last much longer, with regular maintenance. Do it yourself to save lots of money.

Whenever using your chain saw, one of the easiest ways to make sure it is running properly is to make sure you have plenty of bar and chain lubricant. When this gets low, it causes the chain saw to work harder, run hotter, and even worse, will ruin a good chain saw blade.  Unfortunately, the area where you fill with lubricant can get slick, and sawdust can stick to it easily, expecially around the blade.  Keep this area clean after each time you use your saw.

The second thing to always remember is to make sure you are using the proper mixture of gas and oil as per the manufacturer's recommendations. With a two-stroke motor, you mix the gas and oil, and with the improper mixture, this can damage the motor.

The final thing is to try and keep the chain saw as clean as possible. Take a stiff bristle brush, and wipe away the dirt and grime that can collect on the outer portion of the chain saw, and especially below the case where the chain saw hooks into the chain drive.

Remember, you will save lots of money by taking care of your chain saw, and save money doing maintenance yourself, as opposed to taking it to your local hardware store all the time.
