Migraines often go undiagnosed meaning patients suffer uneccessarily. This article provides information on diagnosis of migraines and their treatment.

I have been having migraines recently so I have been doing my research on the subject. I hope what I have found is helpful to you.

Migraine is a common type of headache that people suffer with - but they are often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. Migraines are headaches characterized by intermittent repeated episodes of attack, which according to whether there is an aura or not  before the onset of headache symptoms can be divided into two kinds: migraine with aura (classic migraine) and migraine without aura (common migraine or simple migraine). There is still another type of less common type of migraine, also known as complicated migraine which is defined by a loss of nerve function.

The characteristics of migraine headache that most patients experience are more than half of the pain site limited to one side of the head either side of the head can be involved. Nearly half of the patients in trials reported pain sites can be changed each time. There are a small number of patients with headache in the occipital area (behind the eye) and head at the top, and some even experience face and neck pain. Thus it's not only in the site of a headache to make the diagnosis of migraine.

Clinical diagnosis of migraine based on were no definite abnormalities, but through the inspection of several indicators. Their diagnosis mainly relies on detailed medical history to exclude other diseases. The following points are guidelines for diagnosis of migraine:
(1) repeated intermittent seizures, beginning and ending suddenly, intermittent period of pain
(2) they onset usually in adolescence, affecting women mostly.
(3) attack of pulsating headaches, with possible other pains in other sites
(4) Usually, headache in just one side of the head (but also whole-head headaches occur too)
(5) before the onset of the headache there may be visual, sensory, motor, auras and other symptoms
(6) the attacks mostly accompanied by nausea, sometimes with vomiting and other obvious symptoms of autonomic nerves
(7) people in your family may also suffer from migraines
(8) factors can induce the headaches such as eating certain foods, menstruation, mood swings, fatigue and other

If you have any of the above symptoms, your doctor may be able to refer you to a specialist for brain imaging (including angiography) and other auxiliary examination showed to inspect for abnormalities.

Where a continuous state of migraine patients should be hospitalized immediately in order to correct water and electrolyte imbalances. Antiemetic (anti-nausea) agents and therapeutic drugs including strong sedatives such as chlorpromazine and barbiturate drugs may be administered, but should be used under hospital supervision.

It is reported that the adrenal cortisone hormones may have long term effects towards a dramatic reduction on migraine but they are difficult to mitigate totally. Dexamethasone 20 mg slow intravenous injection over 1 hour brought about symptom remission rate of 72%. This is something that you may want to ask your doctor about.

Practical home treatment of migraine headaches may involve any of the following several ways: rubbing temples wake up every morning and at night go to bed before the middle finger with both hands moved around by the temple. First seven to eight times rub up, and then rubbed down seven to eight times, repeated a few times, for several days. You should find that migraine headaches can be greatly reduced. Immersing both hands in a pot of hot water, the appropriate water temperature should be the upper tolerance limit of the hand. Soak them for half an hour or so which should allow the hand blood vessels to dilate, the taking blood away from the brain and reduced local pressure accordingly, thus gradually reducing migraine.

Eat more magnesium-rich foods, such as walnuts, peanuts, soybeans, seaweed, oranges, almonds, cereal crops and a variety of green leafy vegetables. Or you can choose to supplement with magnesium by consuming such products as magnesium sulfate. Many patients have reported more magnesium alleviates the symptoms of migraine headaches.
