This article will teach you how to motivate your children to do their chores without demanding payment for it.

Step1 Pick up your clothes off the floor- Set the example Lead by example and start early. It is important that you are doing what you are asking them to do. You can not expect them to put up their clothes if you are leaving your clothes on the floor as you take them off. If they start at an early age putting their toys up after they play with them then as the get older they will continue this process with their newest duties. Their duties should mirror their capabilities. Step2 Chores equals a Responsible Child It is important for you to have the responsibilities detailed so they can see what is expected and also see how they are growing with their newest responsibilities. You can actually make a big presentation when they graduate to the next level of chores or responsibilities. Step3 Teach your child teamwork Be flexible with your children. Some of the duties are going to take longer than others and you may need to help out. This is a strong learning time for your child and you can actually teach them about teamwork which will be a very valuable lesson. Step4 They can earn money for certain chores but not all chores. Share with your child that their duties or responsibilities help you have more time to spend with them. If they are interested in earning extra money then we will find duties that warrant payment. It is important to note to them that there are certain things that we do daily that we just can not get paid for but that working together you can find something that will help them earn some money.

Tips & Warnings

  • You have to make it fun and teach them their is value in all that they do.
  • You may decide that they will earn money for their chores but they have to do them everyday without being asked or they have to do them for a week without a fight. I am not against getting an allowance but they need to work hard to get it.
  • Sometimes your kids are not necessarily motivated just by money but maybe they get to pick what to watch on TV or where you go for dinner Friday night.
  • MAKE IT FUN and your kids will have fun doing it!
  • If you have two or more children you will probably get a lot of questions on how you determine the chores. Show them how they have earned the right to do these types of chores if they are the oldest and if they are the youngest share with them the excitement of how they can earn the right to do certain chores.
