Facts about the Squirel Monkey

Sharing the whole primate thing, these animals are incredibly smart. Actually this particular monkey has the largest brain proportion to all primates. Squirrel monkey is 1:17 brain to body size, a humans is 1:35. Good thing these primates are small otherwise they would be smarter then us!

Just like humans these monkeys need companionship and unique diets.

Unlike traditional pets, these will take much more of your time to fulfill their needs. Maybe a few hours a day to nurture and care for them. Its one thing to treat them like a pet, bu you should really treat these primates more like a friend.

Squirrel monkeys live in the tropical forests of Central and South America, high up in the top ( canopy ) layer of the forest.

The Squirrel monkey has a dense fur coat that is short  but very soft. Due to the color markings, its german name refers to the Skull Monkey.

These monkeys have been known to be trouble makers. They will open windows and doors and go as they please. So you have to always have an eye on them if they are out of their cage.

In many states it is illegal to own these monkeys. And many more states will ban the domestication of these cute animals.

They can be very friendly specially with other friendly animals, like your dog or cat.

Typically small enough to fit in your palms, but they can also grow up to be bigger then the avgerage house cat.

They could cost up to $5,000- $7,500 per monkey! That's no cheap pet.

Also the care of these animals will be much more expensive for those vet visits. As the normal vet will not do, you will need an extic animal specialist. So hopefully you have the money to take adequate care of these cute monkeys!
