How to Eliminate Backne (Back Acne) and Cleanse Pores
Back acne is an annoying condition in which, much like any other type of acne, pores become clogged due to over active sebaceous glands. Getting rid of back acne is possible, but takes a little patience, a good diet, and a healthy cleansing routine.
-
Wash regularly and thoroughly to get rid of backne. Gently scrub the back with an antibacterial soap twice a day to remove dead skin cells and cleanse oily pores. Shower immediately after performing any activity in which you sweat such as exercising, physical labor or work, and even sleeping. However, take care in how much you wash or how hard you scrub your back. The idea is not to wash as often as possible, but to carefully scrub oily pores on the back enough to eep them clean and free from dead skin debris. You do not want to irritate skin. Instead, you want to keep skin clean and dry to promote healthy skin cells and clearer pores.
-
Exfoliate skin on a daily or weekly basis to eliminate back acne. The skin on your back is much tougher than the skin on your face so it's generally okay to exfoliate your back just as you would other parts of your body. Exfoliating is the process of scrubbing off dead skin to reveal new skin and healthy pores. Try experimenting with different types of exfoliation devices such as brushes, loofahs, gloves, and washcloths to find the best way to eliminate your backne through clearing off old skin cells. Sugar based scrubs are usually gentler on skin than salt based ones and can easily be rinsed off in the shower. Be sure not to irritate skin with heavy rubbing while exfoliating. Instead, let the sugar based scrub do the work while gently rubbing in small circular motions.
-
Try a medicated cream or gel with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to get rid of backne. Both of these acne remedies work to dry up over active sebaceous glands, promoting fresh dry skin. However, it is important to only use one or the other when choosing anti-backne products. You do not want to over dry skin and create irritation. Simply apply the anti-backne products to skin on your back after getting out of the shower. Rub in thoroughly for best results. Also, both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can bleach clothing so be sure to let it dry thoroughly before dressing. You can use the exfoliating scrub in the shower along with one of these anti-backne products for combating bad acne on your back.
-
Keep your linens and clothing clean to eliminate back acne. When clothing, bedding, and outerwear is clean and fresh, you decrease the chances of having backne. Items that are not kept clean can attract bacteria and germs and cause the instance of back acne to occur or flare up. Keeping fabrics clean means doing laundry more often, which can be a task dependent on your busy schedule. Try to wash bedding, including pillows and comforters, at least once a week. Clothing, especially shirts and jackets, should be washed more often, if they touch your bare back. Aim to wash shirts each time after you wear them. The cleaner your clothing and bedding is, the less of a chance you'll attract bacteria to your skin and the more likely you are to effectively keep back acne at bay.
-
When all else fails, seek the advice of a dermatologist for backne. Back acne can be resistant to home treatments if it is really bad. A dermatologist, or skin doctor, can suggest remedies for getting rid of back acne that will also prevent future acne flare ups. Sometimes, people with back acne need a more intense treatment such as microdermabrasion or medicated pills and creams. However, because many medical acne treatments can be harsh on skin and body, you should never take or use anything for acne that isn't approved by your dermatologist. To find a dermatologist nearest you, search the internet or your local phone book. See the resource list below for links to more information as well.
