Glass Etch on a Mirror

• 1 Mirror any size
• 1 stencil any design (or image to make a stencil from)
• Armour Etch Glass Etching Cream
• Clear contact paper
• Exacto Knife
• Sponge brush
• 2 Clean rags
• Tape
• Windex Window Cleaner
• Paper Towels

Instructions:

Step 1

The first you will need to clean your mirror. Make sure it is 100% free of any dust, dirt or smudges.

Step 2

After the mirror is completely cleaned you will need to cover the mirror in clear contact paper, make sure you take the time to remove every possible bubble.

Step 3

Now you will need to attach your stencil (or image) to the top of the mirror (on top of the contact paper). Tape this firmly in place to make sure it does not move during the next steps.

Step 4

Now you will need to use your Exacto knife to cut the design from your stencil or image out of the contact paper. Make sure you press firmly and go over every line in your stencil.

Step 5

Once you are done creating your image on your contact paper you will need to remove your stencil. I suggest remove only a portion at a time and double check to make sure you didn't miss any lines.

Step 6

Now you will need to begin removing sections of the contact paper to reveal the area's you would like to have etched on your mirror.

Step 7

Once you have removed all the areas you would like to have etched you will need to apply the Armour Etch Glass Etching Cream. Using the sponge brush apply a liberal amount of etching cream to the exposed mirror. Make sure you apply an even coat as quickly as possible.

Step 8

After a few minutes, each etching cream brand will have a suggested amount of time; you will need to remove the etching cream from your mirror. I suggest running water over the mirror and using a damp rag. Make sure you have the water on low as to not damage the edges of your image.

Step 9

Once you have removed the etching cream you can peel off the contact paper. Wash the mirror again to ensure all the etching cream is completely removed.

Step 10

You are now done! Frame and enjoy! This is a great way to personalize and decorate a mirror in no time at all. Think of the possibilities: images of children, school mascots, or favorite sayings. This would also make a great present for new graduates, family members, or that person you aren't sure what to get!
