Use various stop snoring remedies to reduce loud, excessive snoring and improve your quality of sleep. Dietary changes, vitamins and supplements are all powerful remedies to help you quit snoring quickly.

Snoring is the noise created when the uvula vibrates during sleep. This is caused by an obstruction of some kind in the throat that causes the uvula to hang lower than normal. There are many different ways to stop snoring, including changing dietary habits, improving nutrition, enhancing digestion or surgically removing part of the throat. All of these methods are proven to reduce snoring, and some may even help individuals quit snoring altogether.

Diet:

Dietary changes are perhaps the best stop snoring remedies. The quantity and type of foods ingested before going to sleep play an important role in snoring. Do not eat large quantities of salt prior to sleeping, as high levels of sodium cause a drop in potassium. Low potassium levels are a common cause of excessive snoring at night. Do not ingest any food during the two hours prior to sleeping, as this is also associated with increased snoring. Additionally, alcohol causes people to sleep more deeply which increases snoring, and should be avoided, especially right before bed.

Nutrition:

Malnutrition can also cause an increase in snoring. Calcium and magnesium have calming properties and help relax the central nervous system, which plays a key role in snoring. Take a calcium and magnesium supplement on a daily basis to reduce snoring. Alternatively, a multivitamin that includes high levels of calcium and magnesium can be taken to help you quit snoring and will provide many other health benefits as well.

Digestion:

Improving digestion is another way to reduce snoring. Digestive enzymes are powerful stop snoring remedies that will increase the rate at which the body breaks down food consumed. Before buying a digestive enzyme, ensure that it contains 5,000 units of lipase, 300 units of protease, 500 units of pancreatin and 2,500 units of amylase. However, this is only a temporary solution, as pancreatin should not be taken over long periods of time.

Surgery:

Surgery is a more permanent way to quit snoring. Procedures exist that remove obstructions from the back of the throat. Several different things can be removed, depending on each individual situation. Some procedures remove organs such as tonsils or adenoids, while another removes excess tissue. All of these surgeries will clear the airway and allow oxygen to enter the lungs without the occurrence of snoring. Surgery is a big decision and should be considered with a doctor before making any commitments.

Numerous other stop snoring remedies exist, including herbs, homeopathic remedies and physical changes. Talk to your physician or herbalist for more information if the above suggestions don't reduce your snoring problems.
