Dowsing can take many forms and basically, it is a technique where the psychic-mind is used to obtain information which is out of the reach of our normal senses. Once the psychic faculty of the mind has obtained the information required, it is conveyed through the medium of a dowsing tool.

How to Use a Dowsing Tool

The tool used for answering simple questions, or for dowsing from maps is the pendulum. This need not be anything elaborate. To try this type of dowsing, all that is needed is a small weight on a thin piece of cord, or a chain. The cord should be around twelve inches long and it should be held between the thumb and forefinger.

Dowsing from maps can give the location of certain objects. Here, the psychic will sit with a map in front of him/her, while holding the pendulum. At the same time, s/he will be mentally picturing the object. When the pendulum swing begins to alter, the point should be marked and this will pinpoint the general area where the object will be found. When dowsing for gold, silver or other minerals, the psychic may prefer to have a small sample nearby.

How to Answer a Question with a Pendulum

To answer a question with a pendulum firstly decide on a code for "yes" and "no" answers. Do this by lighting a candle and holding the pendulum over the candle as you ask it: "Is there a flame?" Wait a few moments and the pendulum will start to swing. Watch the direction of its movement and this will signify a "yes" answer. Blow out the candle and repeat the same procedure. The pendulum should now show a different movement - perhaps swinging anti-clockwise as opposed to clockwise - and this will show the "no" response.

This might seem a bit strange to do at first, especially for those who are new to testing their psychic abilities but try to relax and focus the mind. Then, when ready, the pendulum can be asked anything which brings a yes/no answer. Here are some examples of questions to ask the pendulum though with practice, many more can be thought for oneself:

  • Am I making the right decision?
  • Can I trust a certain friend or neighbour?
  • Is this the right time to make a move?
  • Is this a good time for a holiday?
  • Should I start a diet?
  • Can I trust my instincts regarding a certain matter?
  • Will I be lucky?

Gender Prediction and Dowsing

Pendulum dowsing can also be used to tell the sex of an unborn child. This works best if the person using the pendulum is not emotionally involved with the future mother as in this instance there is every chance the pendulum will give the answer subconsciously craved, rather than the correct one. If someone is close to the pregnant woman and there is curiosity about the sex of the child but no particular wish for a boy or a girl, the pendulum is more likely to provide the correct answer.

In conclusion, there are many forms of dowsing and pendulum dowsing is perhaps one of the most simple of divination tools giving a yes/no answer which can be both informative and fun.
