Understanding Bedding Choices.

Some information about bedding measurements and materials used.

There are many different bedding types to choose from. There are so many, in fact that it can be confusing to pick the one you would like. The following will describe the bedding sizes and types, which I hope will help you determine which is better for your needs.

The first thing you should know is the different mattress sizes and measurements.

Mattress Measurements:

Twin- 39"x76"
Twin Extra long- 39"x80"
Full Size- 54"x75"
Queen- 60"x80"
King- 78"x80"
California King- 72"x84"
Standard Depth- 7"-9"
Deep Mattress- 10"-15"

Extra Deep mattress- 15"x22"

Some mattresses may differ a slight amount. This is a very good estimate when shopping for sheets, but if you have am unusually shaped mattress, measure before shopping.

Different types of bedding can measures differently. This is the typical measurements of coverings.

Bedspread sizes:

Twin- 80"x110"
Full- 96"x110"
Queen- 102"x116"
King- 120"x120"

Coverlet Sizes:
Twin- 69"x90"
Full- 84"x90"
Queen- 90"x95"
King- 109"x95"

Typical duvet sizes:

Twin- 66"x88"
Full/Queen- 88"x88"
King- 104"x88"

Down Comforter Size:

Twin- 68"x86"
Full- 81"x86"
Queen- 92"x88"
King- 107"x92"

Material and covering differences, as well as care for some of these-

Blankets are sized like comforters, 68"x86" to 102"x94".

Throws measure either 50"x60" or 50"x70"

A matelasse is a quilted hi-lo textured fabric used as one fabrication of coverlets, bedspreads, shams, or dust ruffles. A matelasse also has a textured design.

A coverlet is a lighter alternative to a comforter, or a bedspread.

Duvets:

A duvet is basically a giant pillowcase for your comforter or down comforter. A duvet can make changing a room easy and quick. Some manufacturers make over sized duvets, but others vary in size.

Down Comforter:

Down is not feathers, it is a cluster found under geese feathers. Down is used in comforters and feather beads. It is lightweight and very breathable. It also adjusts to body temperature. This makes it great for year round use.

Fluff your down regularly, air it outside a couple times a year. You should have it professionally cleaned one ever two to three years, or as needed.

Parcale:

Parcale is a plain woven cotton blend sheet. They usually have a low thread count, but are known well for its wrinkle free care.

Sateen:

Sateen is a woven sheet made of heave, durable fabric. They have a satin finish, and are extremely
soft.

Flannel:

Flannel is typically made of cotton twill woven fabric. It usually has been brushed on one side to give them a soft fleece texture. They are also very warm.

Finally the bed pillows. For some of us this make the difference in a good nights sleep. It also looks better with the proper size.

Bed Pillow Measurements:

Standard- 20"x26"
Queen- 20"x30"
King- 20"x36"
Euro- 26"x26"

There are also 3 different firmness to pillows, soft, medium, and firm.
