Getting your cat to live peacefully with his new roomie the dog!
Introducing a new pet to your other is time consuming and requires a lot of patience, but can be done. First of all you have to let your new pet become comfortable with his new surroundings. Once this is accomplished then you slowly let your new pet have his freedom in his new house. The most important thing is to let them handle the situation on their own. Of coarse there will be tension between them ,growling, hissing, etc.Once they realize that they re both here to live together they will calm down. This could take up to a month or so, but do not rush them. Eventually they will realize that neither one of them is going anywhere and they will start to walk freely among each other. Once it gets to this point in time the rest is easy.As time goes on you will see them actually approaching each other without any outbursts.Next thing you know they are playing, chasing each other and even eating out of each others bowls. When it gets to this point you know your animals have become friends and are no longer rivals. Of coarse there will be the jealously factor which will also take a little time for them to overcome. The whole process of introducing your new cat to the dog could take up to a month or so. But just remember the most important thing is not to push them to be friends. This has to be done on their own. The next thing you know they are the best of friends. And another thing is that this process will teach your dog not to bark at cats anymore. And everyone lives happily ever after.

  1. Step 1

I have found that confining the cat to one part of the house for a few days to get used to his or her new environment is highly recomended.

  2. Step 2

Another very important step to take, is not to interfere with the aquainting of the animals. As much as you would like to they will work it out on their own.

  3. Step 3

The last step and probably one of the most important is to show equal love to all of them, no favorites.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cats and dogs as we know are natural enemies, but can learn to get along.
  • When and if they start to have a disagreement do not interveen in any way. They are of coarse animals and will turn on you as though they are fighting with each other. For that split second they do not realize you are the hand that feeds them and you could get bit or scratched.
