This recipe uses turkey kielbasa. Great for brunch or parties. Prep: 15 min; Cook: 5 min; Makes 8 servings

This strata can be served as an appetizer or as a main dish.  Using kielbasa and apples together is what makes this so yummy.  It's really not that hard to make and it looks very nice when it's sliced and served.  Even kids will love it.  Be sure to let it cool slightly before slicing.

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS RECIPE:

  • 1 loaf, about 12oz, Italian bread cut into 1" cubes
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 8 oz turkeu kielbasa (1/2 pkg) cut into half moons
  • 2 Tbsp honey mustard
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried sage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • DIRECTIONS:

Preheat your oven to 375º. Using a nonstick cooking spray, coat a 13x9 inch baking pan. Using a 10 inch nonstick skillet, sauté the kielbasa, onion and apples for about 5 minutes over medium heat. If it starts to stick, add 1 Tbsp of water. Cool slightly.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, honey mustard, pepper and sage. Then set aside. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl and gently stir in the kielbasa mixture and about 1/2 of the shredded cheese. Spoon mixture into your prepared dish, pour the egg mixture evenly over it. Press lightly with your hands until everything is moistened. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Bake an additional 20 minutes uncovered.
