The Nanteos Mansion Hauntings

Featuring the Jewel Lady of the Pink Room, the Harp Player of the Music Room, the Unknown Ghost of the Dressing Room, the Lady with the Candle of the Silver Vault Room... and the Holy Grail!

The Holy Grail was once brought to this now privately owned hotel near Aberystwyth, in the unspoilt countryside of Mid Wales. The Cup stayed here for centuries; people were attracted to it because they believed the Holy Grail had healing powers... and nibbed off much of it, hoping for a miracle. Today, the Holy Cup is not at Nanteos anymore, but there are still ghosts to be found in the many rooms of the mansion.

Listen here to a spooky soundscape while reading:

THE PINK ROOM

The Jewel Lady is haunting the Pink Room. She once was dearly loved by her husband and showerd with jewels. Because she could not bear to be parted from them, she left her death bed to hid her treasures. Somewhere in her after-life, she must have forgotten where she has hidden her jewellery... And so, shrouded in her long flowing 18th century gown, you still can meet her while she is searching her treasures.

THE MUSIC ROOM

Gruffydd Evans played beautiful on the harp, every Christmas, in the Music Room... and this for 69 hears! After he died at the age of 92, many have heard him play his beloved harp, deep in the woods of Nanteos or in this Music Room, where Richard Wagner once worked at his Parsifal opera.

THE UNKNOWN GHOST OF THE DRESSING ROOM

In the 1800's a young nursery maid had to sleep in the Pink Dressing Room. One night she was awakened by a figure leaning over her. She screamed, and the apparition walked away... straight through the closed door. This Unknown Ghost was also seen by two Americans staying at Nanteos in the 1920's.

THE LADY OF THE SILVER VAULT ROOM

One evening the house was full of guests. On the stairs, an army officer met a strikingly beautiful woman in an evening dress, holding a candle. The man thought she was one of the guests, he bowed and bade her good evening, but the lady did not answer: as if he had not been there, she carried on down the stairs. Later that evening, the army officer asked if anyone had seen the Lady with the Candle. He was told never to speak of her again, or there would be a death in the family. That night, the Lord of Nanteos died... and the strange candle the lady had carried was found in a dusty shelf corner of the Silver Vault Room.
