What Education Needs to Mean

Introduction :

 Change is the order of life no escaping from this fact. However if we understand that no progress is possible without change, then our resistance to change may not be as rigid as it would otherwise be. For such an important factor as change, education is the catalyst.

What is Education ? :

By the term Education we normally understand the acquisition of information and knowledge from the conventional sources like the Teachers, books and institutions. But this is not an accurate definition of Education. It goes far beyond than that. Broadly speaking, anything which substantially alters our understanding of, and outlook on, Life can be termed as Education.

Why Education ? :

The chief factor that differentiates us from animals is that we can be educated whereas the animals can't be. But for education, we still must be hunting in the jungles, barely clad and rubbing shoulders with our animal fraternity, sharing the spoils of our hunting everyday with them. That we have come a long way from such a primitive stage is a glowing tribute to the effectiveness of education in defining and refining our status in the modern society. Still, Education has not yet attained its ultimate goal of completely revamping the coarseness of human nature.

What kind of Education is better ?

This is a million-dollar question which educationists are constantly grappling with, but without any significant breakthrough so far. This, however, is not to minimize the advances which education has so far brought about in our day-to-day life. Yes, there have been tremendous improvements in our lifestyle and in various sectors of our life. The developments we have achieved in the material field with the help of education clearly overshadow the much-desired enhancement of human values, which of late, have taken a severe a beating. Still there is hope. Education still is the magic wand which can bring about the desired change in human outlook which in turn will surely set in motion a train of changes for the overall benefit of the entire mankind. So the value-based Education is the crucial catalyst of modern times. Even as the Earth rotates on its axis, the civilized World rotates on Education.

Conclusion :

If we have to maintain the present growth rate in all spheres while still maintaining peace and prosperity for most, if not all , of the people of the world , the constant up gradation, and not a careless dilution, of the standards of education is the need of the hour. The intelligent human species is capable of this !
