Ever consider the foods you are feeding your pet rats? Or lack of? This will identify highly delicious and healthy foods your rats will love!

Rats are like humans in many ways; especially when it comes to delicious foods. Given the opportunity a pet rat would eat junk food all day, and end up a very unhealthy rat. Unfortunately, some rat owners are clueless about proper rat diets, and often feed their beloved pets commercial foods that are not suited for their furry friends.

Most often, a simple rat lab block with minimal corn in it will be great as a base. In addition to a lab block, you can feed your rats practically anything that is healthy for them. Be careful though, some foods are toxic for rats even if they are healthy for us.

Fruits and vegetables are a must. Dont go with the simple things, think outside of the box. You should not be too stingy either; your rats like expensive exotic fruits as much as you do and they are usually happy with a few scraps. Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and other berries are highly nutritious and contain anti-aging antioxidants that your pets desperatley need. All fruits and vegetables are good for them, but superfruits are generally a better option. They are messy however, so make sure to clean up after them to prevent rotting fruits. Rats love peas and spinach and romaine lettuce, so allow them some at least every other day.

In addition to the fresh foods, rats also adore whole grain raw noodles. These are definitely beneficial, and last quite a long time. Plain dry oats are also healthy, as is brown rice and barley. No need to cook them, unless you want to make your ratties a healthy vegetable grain stir fry!

Providing your rats with many different healthy options and thinking creatively is a good way to provide your rat with a long life span. Rats live a short amount of time as it is, but with a fully nutritional diet they can live much longer than average. Switch up what you feed them, because they get bored with food too! Never be afraid to let them try new foods because they will most likely love whatever you feed them!
