Nearly of all the iPod Touch or iPhone users have heard of Jailbreaking, a program that allows your Apple device to device to download free applications. They may have been tempted into doing it, just a my friend was, and in this article I will tell you all about the problems he encountered on the way.

My friend bought his iPod Touch a few years ago for a bargain at a computer store, in the hope that it would be useful to him as a media hub where he could access all of his songs, videos etc. But this was not enough for him! Having heard about jailbreaking, he got to work researching and finding the necessary information to jailbreak his iPod Touch, unaware of the fact that he could permanently ruin his new device.

Eventually my friend downloaded the correct software onto his computer, and followed the onscreen instructions. This is where his first problem occured. The program detected the connected device as an iPhone, and installed the iPhone jailbreaking software. This was a disaster and everytime the iPod Touch was turned on, hundreds of sentences which contained programming codes scrolled down the screen. He was not able to use his iPod! After many days and lots of tears he found out about some sort of emergency restore that fixed his iPod Touch, but lost all his data and returned it back to its factory state.

But my friend decided to give the jailbreak another chance. He went through the same process, but this time manually selected the jailbreak that supported the iPod Touch. The installation went smoothly at quite a fast speed, but not as fast as he had expected. After everything was complete his iPod was ready and useable, with the jailbreak code implemented. He opened up the jailbreak app and downloaded and installed a few apps. However another problem came to haunt him; when my friend tried to listen to some of his favourite music, the iPod Touch refused to emit any sound. He tried changing the volume, removing the volume lock and even plugging it into his speakers. But his attempts were useless, and so once again he restore his iPod, loosing all his data as well.

By now my friend was very annoyed and frustrated, yet he decided to give the jailbreak one last chance. He went through the same process, and soon his iPod was up and running. He downloaded some more apps but found most of them were buggy or did not work and the ones that did work were rubbish. The App Store was then released and he was very tempted to revert his iPod to the state where he could install the App Store, but thought to himself that he should wait a little bit longer. Just after this thought, however, the video started playing up and this made my friend extremely angry and drove him over the edge. He restore his iPod and for the final time lost his data, and installed the App Store. He was much for happier with the App Store, and warned all his friends and family about jailbreaking and then closed that chapter in his life, completely forgeting about his jailbreaking ways.

The final verdict: Do not jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone, because it's not worth the hassle and the App Store from Apple is much better and more reliable, and will save you a lot of time!
