Boil up some hot water, make some tea, and get to cleaning?!

You might already be well aware of the health benefits of drinking green tea. Green tea is filled with antioxidants that research has shown can do wonders for your immune system, cellular functioning, and just your overall health.

But did you know that you can use green tea as a household cleaner?

Perhaps by accident this additional use for green tea was discovered, but the fact is that green tea can clean many surfaces in your home; especially in your kitchen.

You'll save money by cleaning with green tea and you'll be going green by using an all natural cleaner in your home. Harsh chemicals that smell terrible, damage certain surfaces, and are bad for the environment can be used less often; with your new green tea cleaner taking over cleaning duties from time to time.

So how do you clean with green tea?

First you'll want to purchase the least expensive green tea available. There is no point to buying fancy green tea or name brand green tea. The basic store brand tea bags will do fine.

Next you'll want to boil a few cups of water in a pot on the stove. You can also use your tea kettle to boil the water, then transfer it to a pot when it is nice and hot.

Once the water has boiled, place a couple of your inexpensive tea bags in the pot with the hot water. Just like when making green tea for drinking, let it steep for a few minutes.

Then get a clean rag or paper towels and dip them into your pot of green tea. Squeeze off some of the excess tea and water, but not all of it. Then just wipe the green tea soaked rag or paper towel across your kitchen surfaces just like you would with regular cleaning agents.

What surfaces can you clean with green tea in your kitchen?

Some of the most common surfaces you clean in your kitchen can be cleaned with green tea such as:

- Inside and outside of your microwave (unplug before cleaning).
- Stove top
- Tiles and countertops
Inside your refrigerator

You may even find that green tea works on other surfaces as well. As with any cleaning methods, always test out a small amount of the green tea on a small area of the surface to be cleaned. Do this if you aren't sure how the green tea will react with the surface material.

Green tea won't completely replace your cleaning supplies, but you can save money, reduce the use of harsh chemicals, and go green all while getting a cleaner kitchen. Green tea, good for your body and now good for your home too!
