You can send text messages for free even with a computer.

Save money by sending your text messages for free direct from your computer or mobile internet.

Text messaging has overtaken voice calls as the preferred method of quick communication on cell phones. But if you don't have a text messaging plan, sending and receiving text messages can get costly. Also if you don't text message a lot, getting a plan just to send a few texts a month isn't worth it either.

Fortunately there are ways to send text messages for free to cell phones on all different service providers. Keep in mind that while sending text messages may be free for the sender, the person receiving the text message is getting charged to receive that message. Consider this when sending your free text messages. If they happen to have unlimited texting, this isn't a concern.

How to send text messages for free:

If you know which cell phone service provider the person you want to send a text message to uses you can simply go to that provider's website. Most major cell phone service providers allow anyone to send text messages through their website at no cost to the sender.

For example T-Mobile offers free text message sending through it's website for anyone wishing to send a text to a T-mobile customer. You'll need the person's cell phone number to do so of course.

You can also look up a wide range of websites that offer free text messaging services. The most basic ones allow you to send text messages free of charge, while others will allow you to set up a free account so that you can send and receive free text messages through your account on the site. This feature is especially useful for those who don't have a cell phone and still want to send and receive text messages from cell phone carrying friends and family.

There are also some websites that allow you to send text messages through your e-mail account to a cell phone and also send text messages from a cell phone to a person's email.

One thing to consider however. If you are looking to send text messages on a daily basis and want to be able to receive them on your cell phone or PDA you'll want to consider a text messaging plan. Most service providers offer unlimited text message packages for a monthly fee; you'll be able to send and receive text messages 24/7 and never have to worry about going over a limit.
