Therapy dog training is an absolutely no capital business adventure for a person with specific talents. Within this summary you can read if your qualities fit that business. In this economy, it might be just the work you can see yourself encircled in for a long time.

Rarely does a no capital business opportunity come along that is rewarding, is flexible in hours and days along wtih a fun thing to do.  Add those attributes to giving so much to so many people, you might just have to brag on yourself to let people know what you do for a business job. This is not just a position, it is a position of honor. I call this RTDT, wishing it was R2D2 instead to gain more attention to the splendid work.  In length the RTDT is Rescue therapy Dog training.

Things that are needed prior to beginning your own therapy dog training business are pretty important points.  This is the kind of business venture, one does not go into before some serious thought is done.

Needs:

1.  A dog.  If you have access to your parents dog or some other person's pet dog for you to use and train, you can get by without owning a dog yourself.  It is so much easier to have the dog as your own pet, but it can be done without a canine.  If you live in an apartment where pets are not permitted, you can still consider this work.

2.  Willingness to keep calm and be deligent about perservering dog lessons in a sublte, firm and gentle manner is paramount.  Dogs do not generally respond well to physical or verbal abuse.  If your temper flies like snow in Montana in the winter, don't consider this therapy dog training business idea any further.

3.  Ability to go to rest homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities and private homes with a trained and licensed therapy dog.  Most of the patients are called clients or residents in assorted residences for their entire life.  Your dog will be the focus of interest to people, not you.  You do a lot of work in training and the dog will reap the praise.  If you can handle that well, go for the gold, my friend, you will be a great therapy dog trainer.

4.  Lots of time devoted to successful learning of lessons will result in graduation and a therapy certificate to bring your dog to help and aid others. People who cannot have pets of their own, will love on your dog and cry on him too.
