This article looks at when it's time to part with lingerie items.

Women can be notorious at hanging onto clothing that doesn’t flatter them, and the lingerie draw is typically no exception. Many women would plead guilty to hanging onto lingerie that has worn out, doesn’t fit, or simple doesn’t work for their body type. If you want to look as attractive as possible, you need to perform regular underwear draw audits.

Every few months you should get all your lingerie out and cast a critical eye over it. The following list is a serious of questions to ask yourself if you are trying to decide whether to keep a piece or not. If you can’t respond to the question in a positive light, then the item doesn’t measure up and needs to go.

Is it faded or stained?

Perhaps your black lingerie is now a shade of depressing grey? Or a pair of white panties is the not so proud owner of an ugly yellow stain on the left buttock? Faded or stained underwear s unlikely to make you feel great about yourself as you get dressed.

Is it stretched?

Stretched lingerie is just as unflattering as faded or stained lingerie. Sometimes even more so, because it can create lumps and bumps under close fitting clothing. Ditch any lingerie that is now misshapen and can underwear that’s elastic has stretched at the waist.

Is it distorted or broken?

If your push up bra has begun to resemble a lumpy bowl of porridge, rather then a set of smooth molded cups it’s time to say goodbye. Also part with any bras that have mangled under wires. Mangled under wires are not only unsupportive, they can cause you discomfort, because they have a greater tendency to poke you in the wrong places. If you are handy you may be able to replace the underwire of a bra. The same applies to broken hook and eyes, either replace them or dispose of the bra. Also check through your hosiery and ditch any pairs that have runs.

Does it fit?

Lingerie will not be comfortable or flattering to your body if it is too big or small. Many a woman is guilty of buying lingerie too small, because they either hope they will lose weight, or psychologically desire the size on the tag. Others have lost weight and neglected to replaces their smalls. Either way lingerie that fits you nicely is far more flattering. So say good bye to bras that cause rolls, bras that wrinkle in the cups because they are too big, underwear the creeps up the backside and underwear that sags below the bottom.  In some cases you may be able to salvage what you have. If the band of a bra is too tight, you could employ a bra extender. If it is too loose you could take it in.

Do you wear it?

If at some point you have given in to temptation and bought lingerie that you simply don’t wear, consider selling unworn pieces to put the money towards something new you will use. If you never wear it because it’s uncomfortable, bite the bullet and get rid of it. Having it stare at you from the back of your draw, will only remind you that it isn’t doing you any favors.

Does it flatter your body?

Lingerie should offer you support and help you to look your best on the outside. To do this it needs to be suited to your body shape. For example, a woman with large breasts will suit a different bra style to a woman with small breasts. So do some research and make sure you have the styles that suit you.

If at the end of your clean out you discover you need a new things, write down a concise list of what to shop for. This will help you shop more effectively.
