Being indie is the thing nowadays. It is no longer surprising if you see people on the streets feeling good about wearing skinny jeans of bright colors, high top shoes, vintage dresses with tights and leggings. You are now wondering how you can jive with the cool crowd and achieve your own indie look without stressing yourself too much  over the right choice of indie clothes and apparel.

 Consider the checklist below for indie fashion tips.

• You might want to know first what indie is. It is a term that generally describes something or someone who exemplifies artistry and originality. If you are into latest trends and fashion, get ready. You will need a lot of personal ideas for the most part.Indulge into indie music and artists.
• You pretty much know that fashion and music always go together. Get a load of pop, gothic, gospel, hard rock and other indie genre online and save a folder of them in your computer, mobile phone or other music gadgets. You can also check websites of your favorite music labels, they will surely have a list ofUpdate your list every once in a while. Read about indie bands and learn about the musical influences and style.
•  Customize clothes. The target is that your style has to look as if you do not really care on how your clothes are going to look on you, so long as you want to wear each piece. You are allowed to appear dorky.
•  Fill in your closet with some of the clothes that were mentioned in the first part. Choose brightly colored ones for the tights and leggings. Add them up with cardigan sweaters, tee-shirts with creative designs on them and not the branded ones, leg warmers, suspenders and scarves.
• Select a number of indie apparels. You will need a patterned pair of flats, and again go for the colorful ones or polka dots and some other patterns, vintage jewelry and accessories, funky hats, purses and belts, thick horn-rimmed glasses in plastic frames and lastly, a messenger bag.
• Change your hairstyles and make up. The hair should be a little unruly and messy and it should somewhat appear that you have not touched a comb. Try having bangs or get yourself a pixie haircut. As for make up, less is more. Do not wear a lot of make up, dark or smokey eyes are fine. Keep it simple. Piercing is acceptable, just don’t overdo it. Avoid emo hairstyles, you will know one once you see one.

After achieving the initials of being indie, get an artsy hobby.  It is time to pick your choice among photography, writing poetry, stories and songs, blogging, making short films, painting etc. Try anything chichi. Try to maintain an indie lifestyle by watching a lot of indie movies, going to local shows and venues where the other indie people go, collecting old school music records from the classic labels or creating your own, joining an indie band, reading a lot of books etc. This will not only compliment your fashion sense but also give you a chance to enjoy and just be yourself.
