A good computer technician will carry tools to assist him with troubleshooting and maintenance of his client's computers. Amongthose tools a bootable flashdrive would be the most compact and least fragile. This article will give steps on “How to Make a Bootable Flashdrive.”

 

  1. To begin with you will have to select a flashdrive with plenty of space to hold an operating system and the additional tools that you will need to help with your work. A 1Gb flashdrive would be passable but I would suggest a 4Gb flashdrive.

     

  2. The next thing would be to find a burning utility that works with flashdrives. When attempting to make a Windows-based or DOS-based bootable flashdrive, I found that Active @ Boot Disk is a good choice. But, you can use your favorite search engine such as Google.com and find others. If you decide to make a bootable Linux flashdrive, most distributions have a utility to make bootable flash drives.

     

  3. Selecting the right image file is important. You should select the image file that of the operating system that you will be working on. There are image files for each of the operating systems.

     

  4. Load your burning utility and follow the instructions of the utility.

     

  5. Add any additional utilities that you find useful and copy them to the flashdrive.

 

Now you have your valuable bootable flashdrive to assist you in your work.

 

Note: You may want to make a bootable flashdrive to assist you with whatever operating system you have to work with.
