Debunking the most common myths about Wicca and modern day Witchcraft.

If you've ever wondered if those stories about abduction, human sacrifice and devil worship are true, then it's time for you to learn the truth. Let's examine the top 5 misconceptions about Wicca.

Wiccans Engage in Child Molestation, Kidnapping, Human Sacrifice, and Cannibalism of Children
Collectively this is referred to as Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) or Satanic Panic. These allegations were first used by the Romans against the early Christians in the first century CE. It was lie then and it is still a lie today. Throughout history, these allegations have been repeated at various times in an attempt to suppress heretics, dissenters of the Church, Jews and many others. When a new wave of Satanic Panic emerged in the 1980's the F.B.I. got involved. After a full 10 years of investigations, not one single legitimate case of Satanic Ritual Abuse was found.

Wiccans are Satanists/Wiccans Worship the Devil
Just as Wiccans have no involvments in Satanic Ritual Abuse, they also have no involvement in Satanism or devil worship. The idea of Satan is part of the Christian mythos. It is not related to Wicca in any way. Wiccans do not believe in a Satan or any other all-evil entity.

Wiccans Are Women
Since the introduction of Wicca by Gerald Gardner in the 1950's, Wiccans have always been of both genders. In the old days 'witch' was commonly used to refer only to females but today the term is used by both men and women alike.

Wiccans Cast Evil Spells
Wiccans have the ability to cast baneful magic, but wisely chose not to. A Wiccan is taught that what you do to another, you do to yourself. If you cast a harmful spell onto another person you also cast it upon yourself. There is no incentive to use magic for negative purposes. The one exception is using magic to help bring justice when one of the family has been harmed.

Wiccans Are All Fluffy Bunnies
A fluffy bunny is someone who is new to Wicca and doesn't yet grasp the full depth of the religion. The experience of the fluffy bunny is similar what you feel when you first fall in love. It seems as if the whole world vibrates with love and anything is possible. Fluffy bunnies are completely harmless but can be annoying after awhile. Thankfully, with time bunnies either grow up to be real Wiccans, or drop out under the pretense that they were mislead when they learn how much work it is to be a Wiccan.

So now you know the truth. Witches and Wiccans don't harm children, they don't eat children and they certainly don't engage in human sacrifice or devil worship. With your new found expertise you can now educate your friends about the truth about Wicca today.

Great article. Very informative. It’s always strange how people can come up with such looney notions about other people/groups. It’s also always been confusing that Extreme Christians think other people are worshipping Satan, when no one believes in Satan but them. 5* for a very good article.
