For centuries, artists have carved names for themselves and are remembered for their artistic contributions to culture and society. Here is a list of fun and trivial information about famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh and Rembrandt.

  1. Vincent Van Gogh was a teacher at the Reverend William P Stokes School in Ramsgate.
  2. On December 23, 1888, Vincent Van Gogh became mad and cut off his ears and wrapped it in cloth and presented it to a local brothel.
  3. The Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam was opened to the public on June 2, 1973.
  4. Vincent Van Gogh died taking his own life while painting Wheat Field With Crows.

  5. Rembrandt's full name is Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn.
  6. Rembrandt painted approximately 100 self-portraits; some of which are still missing.
  7. Rembrandt had four children with his housekeeper who was also his common-law wife. But only one survived into adulthood.
  8. Saskia van Uylenburgh, his second wife, was his model in many of his paintings.
  9. Rembrandt didn't become rich from his paintings. In fact, when he died, he was a pauper and was buried in an unmarked grave in the Dutch town of Westerkerk.

  10. Pablo Picasso used to sign his earlier works with the name Ruiz Blasco which was his father's name. But after 1901, he used his mother's name Picasso which is the name that made him famous.
  11. Pablo Picasso's Blue Period was inspired by the death of an artist friend, Casagemas, who was driven to suicide after being rejected by a woman.
  12. Pablo Picasso's full name is Pablo Diego Jose Santiago Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Crispin Crispiniano de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Ruiz Blasco y Picasso.
  13. Even though Pablo Picasso was married to Jacqueline Roque, he kept a string of lovers including Dora Mar and Francoise Gilot.
  14. Pablo Picasso was a famous pacifist and kept to himself during the Spanish Civil War, World War I and World War II.

  15. Paloma Picasso is his famous fashion designer daughter with painter/writer Francoise Gilot.
  16. When Pablo Picasso was young and impoverished, he used to burn his own paintings in order to keep warm.
  17. The Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles were all named after famous artists and/or sculptor which were Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael. Donatello lived in a different time period from the others.
  18. Outrage at the paintings of naked bodies on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Pope Paul IV who became pope on 23 May 1555, he ordered Michelangelo to paint over them.
  19. Michelangelo was the sculptor who carved the famous Medici tombs in Florence.
  20. Leonardo da Vinci was so ambidextrous that he could write with one hand and with the other, he could draw at the same time!
