How to Easily Save Money On Gas For Your Car
With the prices of gas changing everyday, it's tough to keep up with filling our vehicles and driving even to and from work on a daily basis. Gas prices are still higher than they were a few years ago and it's hard to afford necessary transportation costs. Here are some tips for saving money on gas for your car.
Purchase gas at a local reservation. Indian reservations often provide lower gas to people who want to drive to their stations. Many times the cost of savings can be a difference of $.50 or more depending on where you go. This can be a big deal when you consider purchasing even 10 gallons of gas and saving $5.00 each time you gas up. However, don't go too far out of your way to purchase gas at an Indian reservation or you'll end up losing money on mileage. Driving about 20 minutes or so for cheaper gas is feasible as long as you fill your car completely each time. Indian reservation gas stations are also great for filling up when going long distances, especially if you'll be passing by one anyway.
Purchase gas at a grocery store that offers discounts. Grocery stores such as Tops often offer cheaper gas when you purchase groceries at their store. The idea is that you purchase so many groceries in a year and receive discount prices on gasoline at their store. At Tops, you swipe your bonus card at the gas station pump and are automatically given a discount depending on how much you've shopped their store. Since you are already going to be purchasing groceries which are a necessity we all need, why not save money on gas and purchase it using your bonus card. Not a lot of grocery stores offer this but places such as Tops, B.J.'s Wholesale, and Giant Foods all offer gas stations at their stores and discounts for purchasing groceries and gas together.
Keep car fluids at their maximum. When your car's fluids are full, your car will run better and use less gas...which saves you money. This includes oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, antifreeze, and any other fluids needed to help your car run smoothly. If you are unsure of how to keep your car's fluids up to the max, take your vehicle to a mechanic at least 4 times a year to be sure your car is running it's best. If your car is not in tip top shape, it can affect the amount of gasoline it uses daily. Be sure to also check for any leaks and add dry gas a few times a year to keep your car's gas tank clean and filtered. You can also take your vehicle to many car parts place such as Auto Zone and they will often check your fluids for free. You'll only pay the cost of the fluids if they are needed.
Get a gas card. Many places such as Kwik Fill, Sheetz, and other convenience stores offer gas credit cards that give you a discount on the gas you purchase for your car. This discount can be a difference of 5% off regular gas prices. Considering many of us fill up our car's gas tanks at least twice a month, a 5% discount can save you a lot of money on gas. You'll need good to decent credit to apply and receive a gas card since it is much like a credit card. You'll also be able to pay for your gas purchases monthly which can help to save you on monthly bills. Talk to a cashier at any local convenience store for more information on saving money with a gas card. Or check online for gas stations and convenience stores that offer discounted gas cards. Simply search for ‘gas credit cards'.
