How to Naturally Relieve a Stomach Ache

Stomach aches can be very uncomfortable in children and adults alike. There is nothing worse than feeling a sickness in the pit of your stomach that you just cannot get to go away. Here are creative little remedies for naturally relieving a stomach ache that will help you to feel yourself again.

Make a homemade heating pad to relieve stomach aches. Take an old tube sock and fill it 3/4 full of rice. Tie the top with a shoelace or string so that you have a large sausage shape. Put the sock in the microwave for 1 minute or until very warm, but NOT hot. Place the rice filled sock upon your stomach where it hurts most and leave on until the sock becomes cool again. This should help to relieve the stomach sickness, but may need to be repeated a second time. It's also a great remedy for menstrual cramps.

Drink calming tea to ease stomach pain. Try brewing a cup of peppermint tea or regular tea and adding lemon or honey. Tea has a great calming affect on the stomach and peppermint especially has been known to sooth sick stomachs. Sip the tea while it's hot and try to finish it completely if possible for the best success in relieve a stomach ache. Do not add sugar or sweeteners as this can worsen the stomach ache or any nausea you may have. Try to drink the peppermint tea or regular tea with lemon/honey naturally and you'll feel pain free in no time.

Eat yogurt to cure a stomach ache. Yogurt is full of live and active cultures that your stomach needs to feel healthy. When bad bacteria takes over your stomach or the lining, you can end up with a sick stomach. Eating yogurt helps to combat that bad bacteria with good bacteria to keep your digestive system running smoothly. Yogurt also works great as a natural laxative. If you are feeling nauseous and unable to eat yogurt, try blending it in the blender with a little ice to create a smoothie to drink. Sometimes the heavy consistency of yogurt can be tough to get down when your stomach is sick. Making it a little less thick can help.

Suck on peppermint candies to ease a stomach ache. Peppermint is a great resource for getting rid of stomach sickness. The natural medicine in peppermint quickly soothes the stomach while helping with both nausea and stomach pain. Candies such as peppermint candy canes, peppermint Life Savors, and even peppermint dinner mints can all help to ease the pain of stomach sickness. Peppermint is also successful at easing a full sick stomach after eating too large a meal. It can help to reduce heartburn and ease stomach aches from spicy foods as well.

Drink plain water to ease a stomach ache. Water helps to flush your system of bacteria and eases stomach pain by getting rid of toxins in the body. Flushing water through your stomach will help to relieve a stomach ache better than drinking juices, pops, or sugary beverages because it is all natural and won't worsen an upset stomach. Aim to drink at least 2 full glasses of water when you have a sick stomach. Be sure the water is nice and cold with ice to help it go down since it's usually tough to drink anything when your stomach is sick.
