Irregular periods can be tough for a woman to handle. We aren't always prepared when a period comes if our menstruation cycle is always changing. Irregular periods can interrupt our lives and create difficulties in getting pregnant when the time comes for wanting children. Here are some tips to alleviate irregular periods and have a more normal menstrual cycle.

Always be prepared with extra sanitary pads and tampons. Irregular periods mean often getting caught unprepared for woman who are actively on the go. It's tough to know when a period will come if a woman's menstruation cycle is not normal. The best way to fix this issue is to be prepared by keeping a stash of pads and/or tampons in your purse, office desk at work, and even your car's glove box. There are even convenient privacy packs for tampons and pads. You can purchase these right at any Wal-Mart or even online. This way, there will be no mishaps or worries about having accidents.

Talk to your doctor about estrogen therapies and/or birth control pills. Estrogen can help a woman's menstrual cycle become normal again. Birth control pills especially help to regulate a woman's period and offer her a routine of getting the same cycle monthly. This helps to alleviate irregular periods and protects her from accidents. It's important, however, to talk to your doctor about the right estrogen therapy for you. There are also other types of birth control that can be used, but depending on your irregularity, your doctor may try different things until you are able to get a more normal menstrual cycle.

Talk to your doctor about the various types of surgical options available. Sometimes, a woman's menstrual cycles is irregular due to cysts, endometriosis, or other types of female reproductive issues. Your doctor may suggest a laparoscopy to search inside your body and find out if you are having any trouble. He may also suggest a D&C which allows him to scrap the cervix and carefully clean out your reproductive system to encourage it to work better. There are many simple surgical options available for women with irregular periods. Be sure to ask your doctor about them and ask any questions you may have about your options for having a normal menstrual cycle.

Eat right and exercise. Many times, a woman's menstrual cycle can be irregular due to extreme weight gain or weight loss. A lot of woman who are underweight suffer from irregular periods. The same is true for those woman who have gained a lot of weight. The best way to alleviate this issue is to eat well and exercise daily. Sometimes, an irregular menstrual cycle can be cared for with the right foods and simple walking. Our bodies are made to work their best when they are at an adequate weight and taken care of properly. If we do not care for our body, it lets us know in unique ways. Try eating more fruits, vegetables, and lean mean while also exercising at least 20-30 minutes a day. You may notice a difference in the way your menstrual cycle works.

Eliminate stress. Stress can be a huge culprit in sabotaging a woman's menstrual cycle. Often times, it's stress that makes a woman's period come late, too quick, or not at all that month. De-stressing can greatly decrease your chances of having an abnormal menstrual cycle. Try a few deep breathing techniques where you breath in deeply and push the stressful thoughts out of your mind while exhaling. Listen to music you enjoy, talk with friends, or even have a good cry to relieve some stress you may be having. Keeping your body as stress free as possible will help to alleviate irregular menstrual cycles and make your whole body feel much better at the same time.

Talk to other woman who have similar problems. Sharing information is often the best way to figure out how to alleviate problems...your period is no different. Many women suffer from irregular menstrual cycles and talking to friends who have this trouble may help you to come up with solutions. Find out what works for some of the females you know with irregular periods. If you are not comfortable talking to friends or family, talk to a nurse or female doctor you trust.
