This is a step by step on how to back up your existing DVD’s by decrypting and burning them.

I love movies and my son loves his DVD’s but when he puts them in the DVD player he tends to not be so careful and he scratches them. So what I do is when I buy a new DVD say “Cars” I will burn it first and put the originally away. This way if he scratches the burn copy so what we can throw it away and burn a new one.

First thing is first you need to get a decrypting software, your normal DVD computer burning program will not be able to burn a DVD that you purchased. The program that I use is called DVDFab, I left the link in the resources portion. This program is free download for 30 days then you can purchase it online and they will send you a serial number to unlock your program.

Go ahead and open up DVDFab and then enter the DVD that you’re going to burn, I’m going to use the Pixel movie Cars as my example.

You will notice DVDFab is reading the source this only takes a few seconds and then the DVD name will pop up under the source window.

Now you can select your target source, this is where you are going to burn the DVD to. You can either burn the DVD directly to a disc drive or you can burn it to the hard drive.

Notice the Navigation box on the lower middle of the program. You have the wonderful option to click the box and remove all the annoying PGCs and other warnings.

Then below you will notice that there is a tab that says DVD9 or DVD5, pick the one the works best with the blank DVD’s that your using. If you are using a standard 4.7G DVD then click on DVDFab, you will notice that it will have to shrink the DVD to make it fit on your DVD.  There is not a huge difference in quality as long as you’re not shrinking it to say 50%.

Another option that you have is to either burn the Full disc or just the Main Movie. This option can be picked on the upper left of the program. Burning just the main movie is great when you have kids. If your child is crying and wants to see Cars you can just throw it in and it starts right away without all the features and previews.

After all that go ahead and click Start, you will notice that it begins by Decrypting the DVD.

It depends on how fast your burner is on how long this will take. Usually around 10-15 minutes. When it is done decrypting it will kick out the DVD and ask for you a blank DVD. This process will now burn your DVD, you will then shortly hear a finish sound and you are done. ENJOY!
