Many people get the idea that if they change all of their light bulbs out with compact fluorescent bulbs they can leave the light on and still save energy. This confusion leads to millions of dollars worth of electricity being wasted around the world each year.

If you are a busy person or just a bit absent minded, you should consider converting your switches to wall mounted light switch timers. These devices are easy to install. You simply replace your existing regular or Decora style switch with the timer. It takes less than ten minutes in most cases.

The great thing abuout using a timer light switch is that no matter whether you forget to turn it off or not, eventually it will automatically be shut off by the switch itself.

If you are concerned about lights shutting off when you need them you need not be concerned. With many models, such as the Leviton series of preset wall light switch timers, you choose the amount of run time for the light.

If for example you were going to take a shower, you would press the button several times until the light is sitting at the sixty minute setting.

Other wall mounted light switch timers are programmable. This is a really nice feature since you may want a run time of greater than an hour. A programmable type light switch timer can be set to stay on for however long you want it. Some can be programmed to go off or on at a certain time everyday. This is a good convenience as well as a security feature.

Are wall light switch timers compatible with compact fluorescent bulbs? Many are not. The Leviton Decora series are which feature a five position push button with presets will work with compact fluorescents.

The payback time for a wall light switch timer is about a year in most cases. Since they last for years this is an excellent investment.
